27th February

Journal Entry:

Earlier on this week we had feedback from our teacher and since then we have made changes to our video, we have included a montage of photos near the end to keep the pace up, however we now need to pick up the pace at the beginning. We have also at the beginning included the song title and the artist name.

Today we have had feedback from the class, and we are very pleased with what we have heard. They all liked the montage of the photos as the pace is picked up and we have also cut shots to make them shorter and so they don't drag on as much. We decided to change some shots around and mix them up a little bit because we had shots that went better with the music and the beat. There are still some shots we are unsure of because they look out of place. Through out the process we have had one clip of cars that we sped up that was out side my house, we couldn't decide if we should or not keep it and today we found a place to put it, instead of having a montage of photos we swapped them with the footage of the cars, this yet again helps us with the pace of the video.

We was also told today that in the first chorus we didn't have anyone singing the first line and that we only had me singing the back up which we have now changed. I am also very pleased we have finally replaced the shot of us all on the bench with the guitar as I felt that shot wasn't needed.
Our deadline is coming up soon so we are going to be working on getting the final touches ready. I am very pleased with the feedback along the way and that everyone agrees we have come a long way and made a lot of improvements since our last showing!

Feedback from class on music video

These feedback sheets have given me and my group an idea of what we can change and what we should keep. The colour of the shots didn't always match, some of the shots turned out blue and others tended to me much warmer. The editing process at the moment is just to change the colours. The class also mentioned that there were some repeating shots 'suddenly I see' but also there is a shot of me and Hayley on the bench in the park and we are both singing however there is only one voice so it doesn't look quite right. We will be changing that and going to have more shot of me doing the backing vocals as I am not really involved much in the music video but more of doing the camera work. We have also been told to add in more 'selfie' shots to the first half as the second half is more fun and free. We agreed that if we had more selfies it would make the video seem more home made video as this is what we wanted to create.

I also got some digipak and poster feedback, I had some people mention they didn't like my font however I do and so do my teachers and then others said they did like it, but other than that my digipak was fine. My poster people agreed that they didn't quite like my back ground as it didn't link with my digipak, Leanne suggested I could put an image on my poster stating the front of my digipak. So I am going to change the colour pink to a more natural colour.

Font changes

After speaking to my teacher I have decided to change my font as it doesn't really represent my genre properly. The font I have is hard to read over the photos I have chosen, it is also too flowery and I have decided to go for something more like the band Haim and also Lana Del Rey.

Here are their fonts:

Animatics feedback

We have had our recent feedback from our animatics. The feedback given was crucial as this gave us the opportunity to begin filming as we had the correct ideas in place. The class commented on the fact our genre was presented well and the characteristics within our animatics was good. Goodwin's theory was important as this highlights the main conventions a music video needs so I am happy that people have picked up on the techniques we have used. They also said the story board goes well with the song and the timings are all good.

However...
The class commented on the things that we needed improving on which was the notion of looking and the intertextual references. We have mentioned this within our story boards but on paper it may not look the clearest.

Our pitch

This is our pitch to the class about After Midnight, and I have posted the feedback that the class gave us and we are on the way to making some changes. Hearing other peoples pitches has also helped us and we have given back feedback that also we can apply to our own work.

Feedback from the pitch

We have taken the feedback into consideration and have made various changes, such as the logo; we have decided to change that as we agreed it didn't fit our genre. I am overall very pleased that people agreed with the bands name and that the song was a good choice for our genre. It took us ages to find an appropriate song choice as we was unsure what would fit our genre. Where people had mentioned the bands image, I feel we have a secure idea of what we want our band too look like, however we just did not mention this within our brief. The whole train idea was a brief idea we had touched upon, but we agree with the feedback that we will struggle due to the implications that may follow with filming on a train. Seeing as we have over come a lot of the problems we have been faced with I don't think this will be a problem for us.

Surveys for Track Listing

Here are some of the questions I have asked people about the tracklist I have created. I will post the results soon.

New typography

From getting our feedback from the class, they have decided that maybe our typography isn't the best for our genre of music. So after hearing this we have decided to find other fonts that display our genre more clearly than our one we have now.

Here are some examples we have found:

My favorite is the bottom 'Leaf 1' because it fits in with our genre and unlike the other one it hasn't made people think of a horror genre. This is more light and natural and fits in with the nature feel. Although my favourite is that one, I have struggled to use it for my digipak due to the colours and it being quite a thin text, so in the end I have gone with the middle one, as this is still similar to the bottom one, but stand out a bit more

Presentation to the class

This is our brief to our class. This is when we will hear the feedback from them as well as the feedback we have had from other audiences. We have wrote about our ideas, audience profile, the record label and a video of our picture ideas. We hope that this gives the class a good insight into our group and will help us develop new things, but to also see if they can give any suggestions to help us make our music video better.

Feedback

This is our feedback from our questionnaire, I think people have been fair with us as this is the whole reason for the feedback. We will adapt the negative feedback as positive for the reason that we will then work on what people do not like and then also what they do like and make it better.

Teacher feedback

This is my feedback from my teacher. I have applied most of the things that she has asked me to redo/complete, such as sorting out my side bars, and having a label tag. I have also begun explaining about my photos and videos that I upload, I still have a few more to complete. I have also begun the journals as much as I can and when me and my group have discussions about our band.
