My digipak analysis ( Katy Perry )

Katy Perry’s digipak has a fantasy theme throughout this could suggest that her music is very ‘pop’ and then this also gives away her audience, not only that but the colour pink is stereotypically aimed at young girls and because of this I would expect her audience to be female. Due to Laura Mulvey’s theory of male gaze, the way Katy Perry is positioned and her choice of clothing could suggest she is also directing the album to boys as well.  The candy and the colours could represent the sweet and innocent side to her music and you can see this by the candy she is lying on, which people could say is represented as an ‘ angel’, however by Katy Perry lying naked and it could contradict this.

Her song choices and also her album art work is revolved around ‘sweet’ things, such as the candy floss she is lying on, and the cakes displayed within the top photos, then she has the 2 CD’s which I think is a really good design. The first one is a doughnut, and because the CD itself is round and the genre of Katy Perry’s music it fits in really well, the same as the red and white one, suggesting it is a sweet. The whole theme has Katy Perry within, and this could suggest that her image plays a big part within her music.

In the  3rd image she is not wearing any clothes which draws more attention to her face which is positioned directly to the camera. This could suggest that her image is the most prominent aspect instead of her music.
